Feyenoord have signed centre-back Aleksandar Ignjatovic on a season-long loan from FC Borac, with the option of a permanent deal next summer.
The 21-year-old will compete for a starting berth with Norichio Nieveld and Ron Vlaar, and coach Mario Been is delighted to have got his man.
“We are extremely happy that we could sign this young, talented defender for this crucial position,” Been told the club’s website.
Ignjatovic played against Ajax in the UEFA Cup last season, with the Amsterdam giants winning both games.
“This is a big step for me,” the Serbian said of his move. “I have always had hopes that I could go to a big club like Feyenoord, but in Serbia you never know when you can make such a step. I am very happy that I can now play for Feyenoord.”
Ignjatovic’s arrival sees one position ticked off Feyenoord’s wanted list, with Been also on the lookout for a striker.
And Been added: “And a new keeper would be a bonus.
