Dutch midfielder Rodney Kongolo has agreed to join Premier League giants Manchester City, Feyenoord have confirmed.
The 16-year-old was offered a new contract at De Kuip, but he rejected it in favour of continuing his career in England.
Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel has confirmed the news in an interview with RTV Rijnmond.
Liverpool and Chelsea were also showing interest in one of Netherlands’ hottest prospects, but Manchester City were the quickest to react and have now secured the signature of the talented midfielder.
Rodney Kongolo has come through Feyenoord’s famous youth academy, but the Dutch giants were unable to ward off interest from Europe’s top clubs.
However, despite the player leaving on a free transfer, the Dutch club will be due compensation for investing in the midfielder’s development.
Manchester City will attempt to get their Premier League title bid back on track when they face Hull City later today, with the Citizens 8/15 to win at KC Stadium.
