Feyenoord will have to do the coming four to six weeks with defender Ron Vlaar as result of injury.

Vlaar suffered a knee injury in training last week. Tests point out that the issue is not as serious as feared, though the player will still miss the opening of the new season.

Feyenoord have been struggling with severe injury troubles lately. The Rotterdam outfit were unable to field several of their star players, such as Vlaar, Makaay, Tomasson and De Guzman. Those who did make an appearance, were unable to keep PSV Eindhoven from winning 2-0.

Vlaar, 23 years old, joined Feyenoord from AZ Alkmaar in 2006 and formed a vital part in the team’s defense since. In 2007, Vlaar was captain of the U-21 Dutch team that successfully defended its European title.
