Fifa really should be ashamed of themselves on Poppy ban

I have always thought that Fifa wasn’t exactly the most moral or sensible organisation in the world but their latest action has got me angry and bemused.

Football’s governing body have told the England team that they are not allowed to wear poppies on their shirts in the upcoming friendly against Spain.

Political

This is just a snippet of what a spokesperson from Fifa said: “ Fifa’s regulations regarding players’ equipment are that they should not carry any political, religious or commercial messages. Fifa has 208 Member Associations and the same regulations are applied globally, and uniformly, in the event of similar requests by other nations to commemorate historical events.”

Brave

I’m sure Fifa think its political but that just doesn’t wash with me. When people wear poppies its to commemorate the brave woman and men who have lost their lives in conflicts old and new. These people fought for the freedom of our rights.

If it wasn’t for those people Fifa may never have existed. I’m not sure if people wear the poppy outside of England. Surely there is other customs that are observed around the world that remind people that others have given up their lives so we could live ours.

I don’t think the poppy is just to commemorate the British soldiers that have died either. Although it’s a British emblem I think it’s a tribute to everybody that’s ever lost their lives for the sake of the liberties which we now take for granted.

Morality

To me Fifa are probably one of the worse guardians of morality the world has ever seen. The last few years has shown Fifa delegates to be corrupt beyond belief and all of a sudden they want to take some sort of ridiculous stance over this issue.

This is just another ridiculous action by a corrupt organisation. Sepp Blatter and his cronies should be ashamed of themselves. Its rules and regulations like these that have made them look like a set of bumbling idiots.

Ignore

Apparently the English FA are in talks about the issue. However I don’t believe that any talks should be necessary. I believe England should wear the poppies anyway and completely disregard what these morons at Fifa have said.

Its slightly ironic that a lot of the soldiers fought for freedom and here we are being dictated to by an organisation which thinks they run the world. I say enough is enough. England players you should wear your poppies with pride.

Unfortunately I believe that the FA will stick to the rules and regulations. England would probably get a fine for displaying the poppies on the shirts but I don’t think that would bother the players. It would be small change to them. I’m sure they would put their hands in their pockets.

I would like to hear what the England players think about the issue. I think they would probably be all in favour of wearing the poppies and facing the consequences later on.

Farce

I think if England did get a fine for displaying poppies there would be uproar and not just in country. I think a lot of other countries wouldn’t take to kindly to a fine England for commemorating the deaths of soldiers. Fifa would look like a totally cold hearted and inhuman organisation.
Important

Something’s in life are more important than rules and regulations. The poppies are a salute to people who are not here now because they fought bravely to make sure we could live our lives in peace. If you do not let the England team wear poppies Fifa you are a disgrace.

Honour

Fifa may not appreciate the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers but I do. I thank you for giving your lives so that we could live in a more peaceful world. You deserve to rest in peace. And to all serving soldiers out there I salute the superb job you are doing and I hope you all come home safely.

Should England ignore the Fifa ban on poppies and wear them anyway?

Chinedu which country are you from? And I’d like to remind you of some of the disgraceful corruption and bribes that have gone on in the so called governing body of football in the last 18 months.

However I value your opinion, even if I don’t agree with it because we live in a world where we have freedom of speech. Those people being commemorated by the poppies helped maintain our right to that.

England should obey the rules. The poppy thing is an English affair and should be for the English. Secondly, i dnt like your idea of calling fifa “Disgrace” just becos they are remainding u of the rules. While we all know that no govt in the world will be happy to the citizens disobeying the laws of the land.
