Fink eyes Bayern scalp

Hamburg head coach Thorsten Fink believes his side can take points off Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Fink knows his side are underdogs but hopes they can follow the example of Arsenal, who recently won at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League.

Hamburg – who sit eighth on the table – have nothing to lose according to Fink, who is hopeful his team can again win after an international break.

“After the last international break we won against Dortmund,” Fink said.

“That is a good omen, also we showed against the top teams that we are able to raise our performance and maybe we can surprise them this time too.

“We clearly are the underdog but this role fits us well. That’s why I believe we can get some points in Munich. We are not going there to deliver the points. We want to play cheekily and offensive … similar to the match against Dortmund.

“And if we will lose then at least it will be after a good performance. To play Bayern is always something special, they are always the big favourite.

“They didn’t concede many goals but Duesseldorf showed us how you can score against them.

“Arsenal won there and we will try very hard to do that too. Everything is possible in football and I always trust in my team.”

Hamburg attacker Rafael van Der Vaart is hopeful Bayern – who top the league by 20 points – will have one eye on their Champions League quarter-final against Juventus.

“I think that Bayern have such a strong squad, we have to expect a very difficult match,” van Der Vaart said.

“Of course maybe they are already thinking about the clash against Juventus. So maybe they will lose focus, but we need to be at 100 percent to have a chance.”
