New Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink is eager to get started at the Bundesliga club and does not believe they will end up battling relegation.
The 43-year-old coach left Swiss club Basel to take the reins at Hamburg, who sacked boss Michael Oenning last month after a poor start to the season.
Fink took up his new post on Thursday, and is keen to make a strong start to his tenure as he bids to lead the club out of the relegation zone.
“I don’t feel any extra pressure to steer Hamburg away from the drop zone. There’s always pressure to perform. It’s a challenge for me to live up to the expectations,” Fink told the club’s official website.
“Our first goal is to leave the relegation places. We have to move away from the drop zone as soon as possible. Avoiding the drop is not our long term ambition though.”
“We owe it to the city and to the fans to do better. The club has so much potential and it should be our aim to win every game.”
Hamburg currently sit bottom of the Bundesliga table, with only four points from eight games.
