Fiorentina agree deal for Brazilian defender

Il Corriere dello Sport has suggested that Fiorentina have a deal in place to sign Botafogo defender Gilberto Moraes Junior.

The right-sided defender has another six months left on his current contract and it became clear that he would be leaving when he rejected a new deal from his employers.

Cruzeiro also attempted to recruit the 22-year-old footballer, but it was Fiorentina that ultimately won the chase for his signature.

Viola will pay around €2 million for his services, and the transfer could be closed by the end of the day.

Gilberto has already left his mark on the Brazilian championship, making a total of 69 appearances for Botafogo and Internacional.

He represented Brazil at Under 21 and Under 22 levels, and is now eager to move to Italy in an attempt to continue his development.

At the same time, Fiorentina are working on the deal that should see Gremio midfielder Wallace move to Artemio Franchi.
