Sportmediaset has learned that Fiorentina and Milan were in talks over two players on transfer deadline day that ultimately failed to come to fruition.
The Rossoneri contacted their league rivals to enquire about left-back Manuel Pasqual, while Viola in turn showed their interest in Ignazio Abate.
However, as the two sides failed to agree on any deal, both players have remained at their respective clubs.
Fiorentina have signed Micah Richards on a season-long loan from Manchester City, but they only sanctioned the costly deal after the move for Ignazio Abate fell through.
Meanwhile, AC Milan had recruited Pablo Armero from Udinese to improve their left-back options, but they apparently also attempted to sign Manuel Pasqual.
The two sides could find themselves locked in the battle for a top 3 finish in Serie A, just like two years ago, with Milan and Fiorentina currently priced at 5/2 and 13/5 respectively to clinch a Champions League berth.
