Serie A high flyers Fiorentina are on the verge of agreeing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Luca Cigarini, Il Corriere dello Sport can reveal.
With Mario Suarez having failed to impress since joining from Atletico Madrid, Viola have set out to sign a quality central midfielder.
After looking at a number of players, they have decided to make a move on Atalanta’s Luca Cigarini, and they are close to agreeing a transfer fee that should be between €3.5m and €4.5m.
Orobici, however, will only sanction the transfer if they can lure Artur Ionita to Bergamo, so this is definitely a story to keep an eye on during the final days of the winter transfer window.
Luca Cigarini, 29, kick-started his career at Atalanta following disappointing spells with Napoli and Sevilla, but his four-and-a-half-year spell with Orobici is clearly drawing to a close.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade moved to confirm that Mario Suarez would be leaving this month.
