Fiorentina have emerged as favourites to sign Genk midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The 20-year-old caught the eye of top European clubs with some scintillating showings at the Under-20 World Cup and he was believed to be close to joining Lazio just few weeks ago.
However, after the Biancocelesti failed to reach an agreement with Genk, Fiorentina joined the race and are now on the verge of winning the race for the highly rated footballer.
While offering €9.5 million for Milinkovic-Savic, Viola are also prepared to let the Belgian club profit from the player’s future sale and that is exactly what could help seal the deal.
The Serbian midfielder only joined Genk last summer from Vojvodina, but he in turn went to score 5 goals in 24 league appearances.
Savic has since helped Serbia win the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand and came third in the voting for the Player of the Tournament.
