Italian media outlet Sport Mediaset has learned that Fiorentina are on the verge of completing the signing of Uruguayan footballer Edgardo Andres Schetino Yancev.
While coach Paulo Sousa and his players are fully focused on the Serie A campaign, where Viola sit at the league summit, the club management is already working towards making the squad stronger for the final push.
At the time when Fiorentina face a tricky away game against Sampdoria, where they are 1/1 to claim maximum points, the technical department are wrapping up the first deal of the winter.
According to Sport Mediaset, Fiorentina have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Edgardo Schetino from Club Atletico Fenix.
The 21-year-old holding midfielder has an Italian passport, which is an added bonus, and he already has 50 top flight appearances to his name.
Schetino was a member of Uruguay Under-22 side at the Pan American Games in Canada, and a move to Italian Serie A is likely to improve his chances of earning the first call-up to the senior national team.
