Fiorentina are stepping up chase for Villarreal defender Mateo Musaccio, reports Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
Viola have already signed Gonzalo Rodriguez, Giuseppe Rossi and Borja Valero from the El Madrigal outfit and they look set to add another of their former teammates.
According to La Repubblica, Fiorentina have already opened talks with the La Liga side with a view of signing stopper Mateo Musaccio in the January window.
Seeing as how the defender’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, chances are he will be available at a nominal fee.
And While Musaccio has impressed in a centre-back position at El Madrigal, the fact he already possesses Italian passport is also considered an important asset.
The 23-year-old has long ago established himself as a first team regular at Villarreal and has so far made a total of 120 league appearances for the Yellow Submarine, scoring 2 goals in the process.
