Fiorentina beat Atalanta in the round of 16 of Coppa Italia at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Wednesday by 2-1, courtesy of goals from Patrick Cutrone and Pol Lirola, with Josip Iličić scoring for Atalanta in between.
Having been already booked, the Viola defender German Pezzella earned his second yellow and consequently a red card for a rather obvious dive.
Despite the presence of VAR, controversies over such decisions still exist in the game as attacking players often choose to go down under minimal contact, but this situation was perfectly clear even to the naked eye. Pezzella will hopefully avoid doing this kind of thing again in the future.
