Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino has signed a new contract, one that will see him stay at Anfield until 2023, the Merseyside club have confirmed.
Since his arrival from Hoffenheim in 2015, Firmino has been employed in a number of roles – on both wings, as a number 10, but he’s currently enjoying huge success playing as a centre-forward. The transformation and development he has gone through under manager Jürgen Klopp is quite notable, as 2017/18 has become his all-time best season in terms of goals (26). He has been a key ingredient in a recipe that got the Reds all the way to putting one foot in the Champions League final while being a step away from securing a top-four finish in the Premier League for the second consecutive season.
Overall, the Brazilian has appeared in 138 games and scored 50 goals for the Reds.
The striker has been recently linked with Bayern Munich as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski should the Pole’s move to Real Madrid materialize, but Firmino signing a new five-year deal has made such a development very hard to imagine.
