Benfica Lisbon needed four goals to secure their first win of the season at Paços de Ferreira on Monday.
Nuno Gomes put Benfica ahead after only six minutes but Ozeia levelled seven minutes later.
Benfica then took a more comfortable lead with goals from Pereira (31) and Cardozo (43, penalty), but the home side hadn’t given up yet.
Rui Miguel made it 2-3 in the 63rd minute and gave his team new hope, but Jorge Ribeiro’s goal for 2-4 in the 76th minute meant a final blow to Paços.
William did make it 3-4 with five minutes to play, but Benfica’s experience helped them defend their narrow lead and take the win.
Having played three games in the Portuguese Liga Sages so far, Benfica now occupy the seventh spot at four points from the leaders. Paços de Ferreira are 14th.
