First win for Sporting Lisbon, Braga back on top

Third time was indeed a charm for Sporting Clube de Portugal, as the Lisbon side finally earned their first win of the season at Academica de Coimbra.

After a draw and a defeat, pressure began to grow as Sporting visited Academica on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Sporting finally broke the deadlock through Liedson in the 63rd minute, and Yannick Djalo doubled the advantage with six minutes to play in Coimbra.

Sporting club to fifth place at five points from leaders Sporting Braga, who are back on top after a 3-1 win over Belenenses.

An own goal from Diakite put Braga in the lead after 28 minutes, but Jean Paul Yontcha levelled five minutes after the break.

Belenenses wouldn’t enjoy that goal for long though as Hugo Viana restored the deficit one minute after the hour, and added a third goal near the full time whistle.

After three match rounds, Sporting Braga are the only team to have earned nine points.
