(GSM) – Flamengo took the slight edge in their Copa Libertadores Round of 16 tie on Wednesday with 1-0, first-leg win over Brazilian rivals Corinthians.

It appeared that the visitors would have the upper hand in the 37th minute when Flamengo midfielder Michael earned his marching orders.

But Flamengo’s defense held firm and actually gave them a chance to take the lead.

After Moacir conceded a penalty in the 66th minute, Adriano stepped up to the spot and coolly beat Julio Cesar.

Corinthians pressed for the all-important equalizer, but it wasn’t to be for the side from Rio.
