Brazilian giants Flamengo have officially joined the race to sign Wolfsburg playmaker Diego Ribas da Cunha, O Globo understands.
The Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a summer exit ever since he returned to Germany following a very successful spell at Atletico Madrid.
Los Colchoneros are still attempting to bring the player back to Vicente Calderon, but O Globo reports that Flamengo have also launched an assault on the highly rated player.
Club vice-president Michel Levy has traveled to Germany in order to discuss the possible transfer with Wolfsburg chiefs.
The Brazilian club want to sign Diego as a replacement for Ronaldinho, who recently left the club to join Atletico Mineiro.
Nevertheless, Flamengo are unable to meet the player’s €9 million per year wage and they will try to persuade him into taking a major pay cut.
The 27-year-old managed to get his career back on track during the loan spell at Atletico, and he is not too keen on staying at Wolfsburg.
