Quique Flores is to stand down as coach of Benfica after a disappointing season which saw the Lisbon giants finish third in the Portuguese first division.

Flores had a contract that ran through until the end of next season, but according to sports daily A Bola he accepted to leave early in return for a financial payoff.

The frontrunner to replace him is Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus who took unfashionable Sporting Braga to fifth place in the league and the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.
