Manchester City’s Phil Foden is set to be offered a new contract, according to numerous sources.
The 18-year-old has impressed since manager Pep Guardiola started giving him first team opportunities. So far he has accumulated 20 appearances and scored a single goal for the Premier League title holders, and he played for all of England’s youth teams from U16 to U21.
Naturally, it will be difficult for him to play regularly for a team boasting such quality in midfield as City do, and that has prompted a number of clubs across Europe to keep their eyes open for a chance to swoop in. Guardiola already lost the services of Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund during this year’s transfer window for that reason, and Germany is proving to be a popular destination for young English players. Dortmund sporting director Micheal Zorc recently revealed that his club would continue to look there for talent, and that statement inevitably sparked rumours of the Bundesliga leaders being interested in Foden. Juventus have also been mentioned.
To safeguard against any such possibility, City are preparing an offer significantly surpassing his reported current wages of £15,000 per week.
