Fonte happy to stay with Saints

Southampton defender Jose Fonte is in talks over a signing a new contract with the club, according to Sky Sports.

The South Coast club have lost a number of their key players this summer with defenders Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers, midfielder Adam Lallana and forward Rickie Lambert all moving on to pastures new.

Fonte had been linked with a number of other clubs, with Championship side Cardiff City and FA Cup winners Hull City said to be interested but he has insisted that he is happy with life at St Mary’s.

The 30 year old moved to Southampton from Crystal Palace in January 2010, and was part of the squads that won promotion firstly from League One to the Championship in 2011, and then to the Premier League the following season.

He has made one hundred and sixty-four appearances in all competitions for the Saints, scoring thirteen goals.
