Fonte pens new Southampton deal

BT Sport understands that Southampton captain Jose Fonte has penned a new contract with the south coast club.

The Portugal international’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the next season, though his new terms see him committed until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Fonte moved to St Mary’s from Crystal Palace in January 2010 and has since racked up two hundred and thirty-nine appearances in all competitions, scoring thirteen goals.

He was part of the squads that won promotion from League One in 2011 and to the championship the following season.

He won his first cap for his country in a friendly match against Argentina aged thirty last November, and has been capped a further six times since.

Ronald Koeman’s side currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League, and can be backed at a price of 3/4 to beat Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
