Fonte set for Southampton stay

Southampton captain Jose Fonte looks set to stay at the club following talks with the club, according to the Metro.

The Portugal international, who starred as his country clinched the European Championships in France last month, has been linked with a switch to Manchester United in a move that would see him link up with countryman Jose Mourinho.

However, the Saints have no wishes for him to leave and have held one-on-one talks with the thirty-two year old as they look to retain his services.

Fonte has been with the south-coast outfit since signing from Crystal Palace in January 2010 and has since racked up two hundred and sixty-eight appearances in all competitions, scoring fifteen goals.

He was part of the squads that won back-to-back promotions to the top flight in 2011 and 2012 while he has twice been named as the club’s Player of the Season.
