Competition: League Two
Market: Forest Green Rovers draw no bet
Odds: 5/6 @ 888sport
Looking to pile even more pressure onto a fading Newport this weekend, Forest Green will make the trip to Rodney Parade on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Newport might have just about managed to snatch a last-gasp point against Exeter in midweek, it doesn’t cover what has been a worrying blip for the Welsh outfit. Despite hanging onto their spot in the play-off spots, Michael Flynn’s men have remarkably managed to win just one of their last 12 matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to December 8th. Enduring what has comfortably been their worst run of the season so far, Newport’s recent issues were highlighted by a shock 1-0 defeat against relegation scrappers Southend earlier in the month. Facing a tough contest at Rodney Parade this weekend, Flynn will also have a real headache over his side’s extended issues on home soil. Including that 1-0 loss against the Shrimpers, Saturday’s hosts have won just one of their last six home fixtures.
As for the visitors, coming off the back of that dramatic victory in midweek, Forest Green have continued on a real purple over the past month. Managing to bounce back from that defeat away at Tranmere last month, the Rovers still find themselves tipped as a leading contender in the automatic promotion chase. Eventually grabbing an action-packed 4-3 win against Oldham on home soil earlier in the week, Mark Cooper’s side hold a one-point buffer from dropping out of the top-three. Losing just a pair of their last 15 fourth-tier matchups, a run that stems back to the middle of November, the former Notts County boss has also seen his side pick up 10 points from their last four League Two appearances. Forest Green should also be boosted by their recent bounce on the road. Securing back-to-back victories away from The New Lawn, Saturday’s guests should be looking to cash in on a struggling Newport side.
