Nottingham Forest have smashed their transfer record to sign Britt Assombalonga from League One side Peterborough United, according to the Daily Star.
The East Midlands side have paid a fee in the region of £5m to secure the services of the 21 year old, who scored thirty-three goals in all competitions last season, helping Darren Ferguson’s side achieve a top six finish in the third tier.
He began his career with Watford, and the Hornets will benefit from this transfer having included a sell-on clause in the deal that saw him move to London Road last summer.
After making just four league appearance for Watford, Assombalonga enjoyed a season on loan with Southend United while he has also had temporary spells with non-league duo Wealdstone and Braintree Town.
Forest begin the 2014/15 campaign against Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, and Assombalonga is the 7/2 favourite to get the first goal of the game.
