Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan will be on the sidelines indefinitely after injuring ligaments in his ankle on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old hurt his right ankle in Atletico’s 1-0 victory over Espanyol in the first leg of their round-of-16 Copa del Rey clash.
The Uruguay star left the field in the opening 15 minutes of the game, after manager Quique Sanchez Flores had said prior to the match on the club’s official site that suggested Forlan carried an injury niggle into the match.
“We’ll have to see his progress, as he’s been ill. He’s not at 100 percent and we’ll have to see if he’s gotten better; that’s why there are 19 players on the list,” Flores said.
“We rested him against Malaga because he had come off of three straight matches in which he’d given a huge effort.”
