By signing a two-year contract extension, Diego Forlan has signalled his intention to stay true to Atletico Madrid. His new contract will keep the Uruguayan striker in the Spanish capital until the summer of 2013.
The former Manchester United frontman, whose previous deal expired in 2011, reached an agreement over the extension with the Primera Division club some weeks ago but did not put pen to paper until Wednesday.
On the club’s offical website Forlan admitted that he felt “very happy about the extension.”
“I’ve always said, since I arrived at this club, that I was very happy and that my hopes were to stay at Atletico for many years,” Forlan said.
“I’m delighted with the treatment I’ve been given by the fans, by my teammates and by the club in general. Being able to extend my contract for two more seasons is a dream.”
