Brazil side Gremio announced on Wednesday night that a deal was struck with the experienced 32-year-old striker Lucas Barrios, a former Borussia Dortmund player, who spent last two years playing for Palmeiras.
Having been disappointed with the lack of first-team opportunities with the Brazilian powerhouse last season, the Paraguay asked to be allowed to leave club in search for new opportunities.
Palmeiras agreed to cut his contract short and the player is now on his way to Gremio, where he will join his new teammates on Friday.
Gremio have confirmed a deal with the striker on the club’s website.
Lucas Barrios is a seasoned footballer who remains most remembered for his three-year spell with the Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund. The 32-year-old striker made 102 league appearances for the German side, scoring 49 goals in the process.
He also played for Spartak Moscow and Palmeiras in Europe, whereas he had a below-par two-year spell with the Guangzhou Evergrande as well, which ended in the Paraguay international playing 32 games for the Chinese outfit, adding 13 goals to his name.
