(GSM) – Former Internazionale coach Luigi Simoni says José Mourinho gave nothing to Italian football and believes Rafael Benítez is better for Italian football.
Simoni, who’s currently a director at Lega Pro side Gubbio, won the UEFA Cup with Inter in 1998 and came very close to winning the Scudetto in the same year.
“I remain an Inter fan and I’m glad that the team is winning,” he told FCInterNews.it.
“Benítez is an excellent Coach, he is a nice guy and I respect him a great deal. When the rumours started of Mourinho leaving, I immediately hoped Inter would sign Benítez.
“The Spaniard has fine technique and is a good man, so in that sense he has the advantage over the Portuguese Coach.
“I say Benítez is better. If he proves that he’s just as good on the bench and manages to be nice to people, then that would be perfect.
“Mourinho gave nothing new to Italian football,” continued Simoni. “He played the counter-attacking game and I agree with that, as I’ve always said it is the most effective system.
“However, Mourinho introduced absolutely nothing new in terms of tactics or technique.”
