French striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle will be training with FC Chicago Fire, the club’s technical director Brian Bliss has revealed.
The media outlets in France had earlier suggested that the 29-year-old would sign for the MLS side, but it appears that he will rather try and earn a contract during a week-long trial.
Chicago Fire coaching staff first needs to take a look at the experienced forward before deciding whether to add him to their roster.
“Florent’s a guy with a good resume who is currently without a team,” Bliss told club’s official website.
“He’ll be getting a look with us in training over the next week as we explore roster development opportunities going forward.”
The well-traveled striker has represented Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Saint Etienne, among other clubs, and he is currently a free agent with his contract at Rostov expiring.
Pongolle scored just one goal in 8 league appearances for the Russian side last season, and no wonder he was not retained.
Chicago Fire have already signed one player with Premier League experience, having recruited former West Bromwich forward Robbie Earnshaw.
