Palmeiras midfielder Cleiton Xavier, a former transfer target for La Liga giants Real Madrid, has completed a switch to Ukrainian outfit Metalist Kharkiv. Xavier has signed a four year contract with Metalist and this is his first stint with a non Brazilian club.
Xavier, a Centro Sportivo Alagoano youth product, signed for Internacional in 2002. He had loan spells with Sport Recife, Brasiliense , Gama, Marilia and Figueirense before joining Palmeiras last year. He was heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid last winter.
Xavier, primarily an attacking midfielder, has been capped by Brazil at U-20 level. He will become the fourth Brazilian in Metalist’s set up along with compatriots Fininho, Edmar and Jajá Coelho.
