West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster has taken the blame for his side’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City.
The hosts were 1-0 up against a 10-man City side until the final 10 minutes, but a two-goal cameo from Edin Dzeko handed Steve Clarke’s men their first home defeat of the season.
The Bosnian’s first goal resulted from a cross which Foster came off his line to collect but failed to get to the ball.
And the 29-year-old has conceded that he should have stayed put.
“It was a great ball in, to be fair. I thought I’d come and get something on it but once you are on your way you think ‘oh no, here we go’,” he told West Brom’s official website.
“You are hoping the defender gets it but it was a great ball in and a great header as well. I should have stayed on my line.”
The former Manchester United man went on to explain that his side were unlucky to concede a second, as his side continued to attack Roberto Mancini’s men throughout the match.
“The second one is credit to us that we were trying to win the game against Manchester City,” he said.
“We were giving it a go at least. They broke on us and that is what 70 million pounds worth of talent does for you. I’m gutted. I thought we played really well.
“But we will just carry on the way we are going. We are playing fantastic football and we are going to win a lot more games than we lose if we carry on playing like that.”
