Foster staying at Old Trafford – Ferguson

(GSM) – Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists goalkeeper Ben Foster will not be leaving Old Trafford over the summer. Foster began this season as first-choice ‘keeper with Edwin van der Sar on the sidelines.

However, some serious errors saw Foster move down to third in the pecking order with Van der Sar returning to full fitness and Tomasz Kuszczak being chosen as the established back-up of the veteran Dutch ‘keeper.

Foster’s lack of first-team opportunities has also pushed the goalkeeper out of contention for a place in England’s World Cup squad. Fabio Capello is expected to go with goalkeeping trio Rob Green, David James and Joe Hart come the summer.

And it has been suggested that Foster is unhappy and may leave Old Trafford at the end of the season in-search for first-team football. But Ferguson expects his goalkeeper to stay.

“Ben has been unfortunate,” said Ferguson. “He made some mistakes earlier this season and Tomasz Kuszczak got in.

“His form has been great. Every time he played he was outstanding. What do I do? Pick Ben because he is English or go with form?

“But Ben has fantastic talent and I am sure he will be tremendous next year.

“The boy has just signed a new contract and has never said anything to me, so as far as I am concerned, he will be here.”
