France and Uruguay shared the points in a goalless Group A World Cup match on Friday with the French unable to capitalise after Uruguay had Nicolas Lodeiro sent off with 10 minutes to go.
French striker Sidney Govou missed the best chance early in the game, failing to connect with Franck Ribery’s perfect low cross from close range.
Uruguay were forced to hang on grimly after Lodeiro became the first player sent off at this World Cup for a studs-up challenge on Bakary Sagna.
France had a late appeal for a penalty turned down flat when substitute Thierry Henry’s shot hit the forearm of a Uruguayan defender.
