Frank McAvennie has urged Declan Rice not to leave West Ham United amid reported interest from Chelsea.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are interested in signing Rice from Premier League rivals West Ham in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that the Blues are planning to offer a player-exchange deal for the 21-year-old worth a total of £70 million.
Rice is one of the best young players in the Premier League, and can operate as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder.
Former West Ham striker McAvennie believes that Rice will eventually leave the Hammers, but he hopes that the England international stays at the club for one more season at least.
McAvennie told Football Insider about Rice: “The boy will go eventually I just hope it is next year rather than this year. He always says that he loves the fans so give them next year.
“But it also depends on the ambition of West Ham and they need to buy players to match his ambition. You have got to buy players and he will want the owners to give David Moyes money to go out and improve the squad. They need talent. West Ham are a big club so, we will have to wait and see.”
Leaving West Ham United for Chelsea
Chelsea finished in the top four of the Premier League table last season and will play in the Champions League in 2020-21, while West Ham narrowly avoided the dreaded drop to the Championship.
Leaving West Ham for Chelsea would be a step-up for Rice, and the youngster’s addition to Frank Lampard’s side would also enhance their chances of winning the league title next season, with Betfair currently rating them at 11/1 third favourites for the championship.
