Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have completed the signing of Turkish forward Halil Altintop on a short term contract from Schalke 04. The striker rarely featured for Schalke under Felix Magath and Frankfurt, who were looking for attacking reinforcements in the winter market, moved quickly to secure his signature.

Altintop, the twin brother of Bayern Munich’s Hamit, was born in Gelsenkirchen and began his professional career with Wattenscheid 09. He transferred to Kaiserslautern in 2003 and joined his brother at Schalke in 2006 after an impressive 2005-06  season for Die roten Teufel.

Altintop earned his first cap for Turkey in 2004 and also featured for them in their recent unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign. He could make his Frankfurt debut this weekend when Michael Skibbe’s men host Cologne in the league.
