Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield is set to miss the rest of the Scottish club’s pre-season preparations after spilling boiling water on his foot.
Langfield will be out for two or three weeks after the accident while making a cup of coffee on Aberdeen’s team bus as the squad headed to England for a training camp.
The 30-year-old needed crutches after receiving hospital treatment and was sent back to Scotland, with third-choice goalkeeper Scott Bain called up as his replacement.
Dons manager Mark McGhee admits Langfield may not make the team’s friendly against Kaiserslautern on August 7 and is struggling to be fit for the start of the Scottish Premier League season.
“It is not as bad as it could have been but it is bad enough,” McGhee told the Press and Journal.
“He has burned his foot and it looks like he will be out for a few weeks.
“It is one of these unfortunate things but we cannot dwell on it. We all have to get on with it.
“You always know players can get injured but you do not expect this kind of thing.
“They were making coffee and he spilled boiling water on himself. You cannot legislate for it.”
