Tottenham’s long-term target and Lyon striker Fred has seemingly turned down a potential move to White Hart Lane after the striker failed to turn up to a meeting with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, according to BBC Sport.
Numerous reports filtered in last night that the Brazilian was spotted at White Hart Lane for Tottenham’s precious 3-1 win over fellow relegation strugglers Stoke.
However, the striker was set to meet Redknapp earlier on that day but failed to show up, possibly ending any potential move for the striker.
Redknapp told press: “He was supposed to come today but didn’t turn up so I wouldn’t bet on him coming tomorrow, I don’t know what happened. He’s out of contract in the summer so I think Lyon are asking for a small fee.”
Tottenham are said to have stepped up their interest in the Brazilian striker after they failed in their bid for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.
Website goal.com reports that Fred has been told he can leave Lyon if he can find a suitable buyer and were hoping for a swap deal with Spurs involving youngster Giovani dos Santos moving to the Stade Gerland.
Meanwhile, Redknapp will make a decision this week on whether or not to offer a contract to Ghanaian star Stephen Appiah.
The midfielder has been without a club since he ended his contract at Fenerbahce last year and is set to feature in Tottenham’s reserve game against Reading on Wednesday.
