Players of the Spain national team have received their body weight in beer as a reward for winning Euro 2012.
Spanish-based beer company Cruzcampo have been sponsoring La Roja since 2007, and decided to offer the winning squad members the present as a thank you for completing the unprecedented treble of winning two European Championships and one World Cup.
“It is an honour to be sponsoring these champions,” Cruzcampo’s marketing director Erick Larsson told europapress.
“We are confident in this current team and hope to remain a talisman for their success to come.”
Spanish Football Federation board member Jorge Carretero was also at the event, and took time to thank the company for their continued support.
“I want to say thank you, because they have proven to be a very worthy partner. We are proud to be sponsored by a Spanish company, and despite the economic problems, we are pleased we can help them grow.”
Two of the squad were present at the ceremony – Jordi Alba and Xabi Alonso receiving 67kg and 84kg of beer respectively.
Vicente Del Bosque’s side will face Saudi Arabia on Friday September 7, before travelling to Georgia for World Cup 2014 qualifying four days later.
