French striker Sidney Govou has invited Portsmouth to make a move for him if the club are actually interested as reports suggest.
Govou’s agent Frederic Guerra told Sky Sports: “Sidney wants to come to England and is interested in Portsmouth,”
“He is at an age where he wants to move. He has made that decision. But at the moment I don’t know if that is possible.
“I have heard that Harry Redknapp may be interested, But Harry has not contacted me and nor has anyone from Portsmouth so far.â€Â
The striker scored Lyon’s winning goal in the French Cup final at the weekend and reports suggest that Portsmouth scouts were present to run the rule over the striker.
Govou, 28, was strongly linked with Portsmouth this time last year and rumours are now gathering force once again as Redknapp looks to bolster his squad over the summer.
The striker is of similar style to current Pompey striker Jermain Defoe, with his superb pace and skill impressing fans and admirers alike. However, Govou has recently adopted a different role at Lyon due to his lack of composure in front of goal, with the Frenchman playing either on the wing or in the attacking midfielder role at Lyon.
Govou has made it clear that he intends to leave Stade Gerland in the summer, with England seemingly his preferred destination.
And it is thought that a bid of around £7 million would be enough to lure the striker to Fratton Park, and with the backing of millionaire Alexandre Gaydamak, the price tag is unlikely to deter Redknapp.
Sky Sports reports that a number of other English clubs, as well as La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid, are believed to be interested in Govou, but the player’s agent has admitted that the current FA Cup holders are Govou’s preferred option.
The Premiership outfit already have Jermain Defoe, Milan Baros and Nwanko Kanu on their books, but have been linked with several more strikers, including Govou and Liverpool’s Peter Crouch.
