With Europe’s top-tiers now really in the business end of the season, there is no doubt that teams from across the continent will already be putting together their plans for the summer.
As the likes of Manchester City once again start their pursuit for a new number nine ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, many are expecting what could be a record-breaking summer transfer window.
On a list that includes some of Europe’s most lethal strikers, we have taken a look at a few heavyweight forwards that have been linked with a blockbuster move over the coming months.
Erling Haaland – Borussia Dortmund
Bagging a brace against Wolfsburg last weekend as Borussia Dortmund stormed their way to a 6-1 win, Erling Haaland has only continued to underline why many regard him to be Europe’s leading number nine.
Despite dealing with some public injury issues throughout the season, the 21-year-old has still racked up 18 goals in just 20 appearances, a tally that sees him sat third in the race for Germany’s Golden Boot.
While BVB might have managed to keep hold of their attacking talisman during the January transfer window, it has been widely suggested that the Norweigan superstar will be seeking a new challenge over the coming months.
Along with being linked to a potential move to Real Madrid this summer, it appears that Manchester City find themselves sat in pole position to clinch Haaland’s signature.
With Haaland’s father, Alfe-Inge, spending three years with the Premier League giants between 2000-2003, The Daily Mail are reporting that City have already agreed personal terms on a deal that could be worth in the region of £500,000-per-week.
Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea
While there might have been much excitement among Chelsea fans when Romelu Lukaku completed his Stamford Bridge return for a club-record fee of £97.5million last summer, the Belgian striker now finds himself in somewhat of a nightmare.
Dealing with an Achilles injury and missing out as the Blues crashed out of the Champions League last week, the former Inter Milan ace has struggled to cement his spot as Thomas Tuchel’s number one choice up front.
With German international Kai Havertz enjoying his own free-scoring run while leading Chelsea’s line, there have been growing reports that the now-former European champions could already be looking to cash in.
Doing a shock interview back in January as he appeared to suggest he was already keen on a return to the San Siro, Lukaku has now remarkably failed to bag a single Premier League strike since way back on December 29th.
Still dealing with some public issues behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, 90min reported last weekend that both Inter Milan and PSG have already made it clear that they would be looking to complete a deal this summer.
Robert Lewandowski – Bayern Munich
Shockingly crashing out of the Champions League last week after a stunning 2-1 aggregate defeat against Spanish outfit Villarreal, it is fair to say that many in Germany are expecting a transition at Bayern Munich this summer.
Although it might appear that Julian Nagelsmann’s men are cruising their way towards another domestic crown this season, there is growing concern that Robert Lewandowski could be on his way out of the Allianz.
Storming his way to another Golden Boot and only continuing to break a host of records during his stunning two-year run, the Polish superstar remains at loggerheads with Bayern over an improved deal.
Already bagging 53 goals for club and country this season, Lewandowski is soon to enter the final year of his current contract and there has been no signs of agreeing on new terms, despite Bayern’s best efforts.
In what would undoubtedly be a sensational move this summer, Marca reported last weekend that Spanish giants Barcelona are growing more confident that they could find a deal to bring the Polish record-breaker to Catalonia.
Edinson Cavani – Manchester United
Once again missing Manchester United’s woeful 4-0 drumming against Liverpool in midweek, all signs are pointing towards Edinson Cavani leaving Old Trafford this summer.
With his current deal set to expire in just a couple of months’ time, the Uruguayan ace has managed to muster just 17 appearances for the struggling Premier League giants so far this season.
While the former PSG striker might have become somewhat of a fan favourite around the red half of Manchester, Cavani has failed to find any real form under current interim boss Ralph Rangnick.
However, although there might be no signs of the 35-year-old signing a contract extension at Old Trafford, it has been suggested that he will not be short of options this summer.
In fact, The Daily Mail reported last month that defending Italian champions Inter Milan are keen on snapping up Cavani on a free transfer over the coming weeks.
