With Manchester United agreeing on a deal worth £75 million to sign Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, the top 10 list of most expensive Premier League transfers gets a significant update.
And unless a club from England goes that extra distance to bring in AS Monaco star forward Kylian Mbappe this summer in what would be the biggest transfer news this season, the ultimate list of ten biggest ones on the British Isles looks like this:
Paul Pogba: Juventus to Manchester United – £89.3 million
French midfielder left Manchester United after falling apart with the club management over the lack of first-team chances and went on to achieve world fame with Serie A heavyweights Juventus.
Having left Old Trafford in 2012, the 24-year-old French international made a sensational return to Manchester four years later as an established world-star. His move back home commanded a world-record fee in excess of £89.3 million and additional £4.4 million in bonuses, which exceeded the previous record held by Gareth Bale.
Pogba did not have the best of starts to his new-old life at Manchester United but has gone to display glimpses of quality and leadership that are bound to promote him into United’s biggest star in the 2017/18 season as Red Devils aim to fight for honours in Mourinho’s second season at the club.

Romelu Lukaku: Everton to Manchester United – £75 million
The Belgian striker first hit the English scene as a young boy touted to become the next Didier Drogba.
He failed to live up to the expectations at Chelsea upon his arrival from Anderlecht and was initially loaned out before getting sold to Everton. Lukaku raised the level of his performances significantly at the Goodison and really hit the ground running last season. After a goal-laden campaign, he announced he would be leaving the Toffees and was expected to get back to Stamford Bridge for a shot at redemption, but chose Manchester United instead.
The Belgian was influenced by Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho, his former manager at Chelsea and is about to make his move to ‘the biggest club in the world’ official any time this week.
Angel Di Maria: Real Madrid to Manchester United – £59.7 million
The Argentine winger was seemingly pushed out of the first team over at Real Madrid as he made his big-money move to Old Trafford where he had been awarded a legendary No. 7 worn by iconic Red Devils before him.
Di Maria, however, turned out to be a major flop for Manchester United as he lasted only one season in England before he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain.
He only made 27 league appearances for the English giants and scored 3 goals.
Kevin De Bruyne: Wolfsburg to Manchester City – £55 million
The Belgian winger De Bruyne turned out to be just another one in the line of talented youngsters who failed to make the grade at Chelsea, before going on to shine elsewhere.
Played out of position and not given enough time to settle after his move from Genk, De Bruyne was initially loaned out to Werder Bremen before being sold to Wolfsburg. Having become one of the key players for the Bundesliga club, the 26-year-old Belgium returned to England in 2015.
Now a Manchester City player, Kevin De Bruyne is considered one of the leaders of the new generation at Etihad.
Fernando Torres: Liverpool to Chelsea – £50 million
The Spaniard’s decline began with his decision to leave Liverpool and his subsequent ill-fated move to Stamford Bridge.
The fans burnt his Liverpool shirts in agony but ended up almost feeling sorry for once the lethal striking force after seeing him struggle with an uncanny slump in form in a blue shirt.
Torres ended up winning trophies and wearing medals around his neck, but his contribution in Chelsea’s quests have been nothing but peripheral.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool to Manchester City – £49 million
Another Liverpool fan-favourite who left Anfield for a big-money move, Raheem Sterling earned his place on the list in 2015.
The England international was suffering from the chronic lack of silverware with the Reds and made his move toward pastures greener looking for fame and fortune.
His dreams are yet to materialise, but Sterling is – alongside De Bruyne – one of the leaders of the new wave and is expected to play a significant role under Pep Guardiola in the seasons to come.
His 7 goals and 6 assists in 29 Premier League games last season are good indicator ahead of the forthcoming season.
John Stones: Everton to Manchester City – £47.5 million
England international defender hit the stage running in 2015 when he became one of key players at Everton and one of the most promising English footballers.
Many a club came knocking on his doors, but he opted to move to the Etihad in 2015 for a sum that made him the most expensive defender in Premier League history.

Alexandre Lacazette: Lyon to Arsenal – £46.5 million
Another this year’s addition to the top 10 most expensive transfers list in the Premier League is Arsenal’s long-term target Alexandre Lacazette.
After years of speculation and a summer during which he would have joined Atletico Madrid hadn’t it been for the transfer ban for La Liga giants, the French striker ends up in London where he is expected to lead Arsenal forward and back to the pedestal of English football.
His big-money move to the Gunners comes with a great burden, but Lacazette’s prolific records speak for themselves and the fans are rejoicing ahead of the following season.
Bernardo Silva: AS Monaco to Manchester City – £43 million
The Portuguese international playmaker had a gigantic year behind him.
Having become a European champion with Portugal, Silva went on to continue his impressive displays at AS Monaco, leading his team forward both on the domestic and international scene.
Having helped his side break the PSG’s dominance he packed his bags and decided to test his skills in England where he is expected to orchestrate attacks and bring magic to Manchester City’s exciting squad next season.
If he manages to replicate the showings from the Principality club and his national team, Manchester City fans are in for a proper treat next term.
Mesut Ozil: Real Madrid to Arsenal – 42.4 million
German genius Mesut Ozil broke the club record in 2013 when he joined Arsenal as a marquee signing from Real Madrid.
The World Cup winner and one of the highest rated midfielders on the planet is keeping Arsenal fans in suspense this summer as he is yet to sign a contract extension with Gunners.
