Fulham will play European football next season after winning a place in the Europa League competition on Thursday.

Mark Hughes’ side gained entry to Europe’s second-tier competition through the Premier League’s Fair Play League, in which they finished second.

Chelsea finished top of the Fair Play League but because they had already qualified for the Champions League, Fulham claimed the European spot.

”Fulham FC has finished the season as the highest placed club in the 2010/11 Fair Play League that has not already qualified for UEFA competitions via the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League,” a Premier League statement said.

”The club will take the additional European place awarded to England and compete in next season’s UEFA Europa League.”

Fulham had only one player red-carded throughout the entire Premier League, with midfielder Zoltan Gera sent off in their final-day 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Entry into the Europa League will not be won easy however, with a series of qualifying rounds ahead for Fulham, meaning an early start to the season.

But they do have fond memories of the Europa League after they reached the final in 2010 before losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in Hamburg.
