Fulham manager Mark Hughes hopes to sign Mexico left-back Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven before the transfer window closes on August 31.
Hughes admitted Fulham have made a bid for the 30-year-old, who played for his country at the recent World Cup, and reports in England on Wednesday suggested that offer had been accepted.
Hughes insists his pursuit of Salcido does not mean that Fulham’s current left-back Paul Konchesky will be sold.
“We have made enquiries,” said Hughes, after watching Fulham beat Port Vale 6-0 in the second round of the League Cup.
“He (Salcido) is a player I am interested in and we are hopeful it might be concluded.”
Konchesky has been linked with a move to Liverpool, where he would link up again with former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson.
“We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left back is a position we are a little light in,” said Hughes.
“It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in.”
