Premier League club Fulham signed Mexico defender Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven for an undisclosed fee on Friday.
Salcido agreed a three-year contract with the Cottagers after impressing boss Mark Hughes with his performances for Mexico at the World Cup.
Hughes said: “Carlos is a versatile defender who can play in a number of positions, so he gives us a number of options defensively.
“It is pleasing that we have been able to make additions of extremely high quality during this window, and that these players will help us progress in the right direction.”
Salcido added: “It has always been an ambition to play in England in the Premier League and it?s great that I have been able to make the move to Fulham.”
The 30-year-old’s arrival in west London could pave the way for Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky to join Liverpool, whose manager Roy Hodgson is keen to sign a player he knows well from his time in charge of the Cottagers.
Hughes admitted there could also be more signings before the transfer window shuts on August 31.
“There are still a few days before the window ends, which may see some more activity, so I’m very satisfied with the way things are shaping up for the season ahead,” he said.
