(GSM) – Fulham will have to look further for their new coach: their No 1 target Martin Jol has decided to stay at Ajax.
Yesterday it was reported Fulham were negotiating with Jol and his representative. Today, De Telegraaf says the Dutch coach has decided to stay true to Ajax after talks with the management last night.
Jol has vowed to stay at the Amsterdam side despite the firm interest of Fulham. However, the former Tottenham manager has urged Ajax to invest in the squad because he believes this is necessary to compete at the top this season.
Dennis Rommedahl, Kennedy Bakircioglü and Marko Pantelic all left the club this summer and so far, no replacements have arrived at the Amsterdam ArenA. This angered Jol, as he knows the club needs to bolster the squad if they want to win the Dutch title for the first time since 2004.
Jol arrived at Ajax last summer from Hamburger SV. The 54-year-old tactician still has a contract until June 2012 with the Dutch record champions.
