(GSM) – Manchester City want to sign Sunderland’s Marton Fulop to take over from the injured Shay Given on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season and the Hungary international responded positively to City’s offer.
City were left without an experienced senior goalkeeper when Republic of Ireland international Given dislocated his shoulder at the weekend.
Joe Hart is currently on loan at Birmingham and Stuart Taylor is on his way back from a knee injury, and reports today claimed the Eastlands club are attempting to recall Hart from his spell at St Andrews.
However, Press Association Sport understands there has been contact with the Black Cats over Hungary international Fulop, who is currently number three at the Stadium of Light and seemingly heading for the exit after making his desperation for first-team football abundantly clear.
Manager Steve Bruce admitted earlier this season that he would not stand in the 26-year-old’s way should the right offer come along.
“I can’t confirm officially any approach because personally I haven’t been contacted by anyone,” Fulop responded.
“But if the news is true then I’d go there happily and I would be hungry to play for Manchester City.
“This is an enormous honour for me that my name has been linked with a club which has such a great history,” enthusiastic goal keeper said.
Fulop, who turns 27 on Monday, has made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Wearsiders.
