Argentine forward Nicolas Gaitan has reaffirmed his desire to remain at Benfica amidst speculations linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils are closely monitoring the player’s progress and they could present an official offer at the end of the season.
Manchester United scouts had the player watched in the 4-1 victory over Nacional, and speaking after the game Gaitan revealed his desire to remain at Benfica.
“Manchester United had scouts watching me play? I am calm about it, I fell comfortable at Benfica, I’m playing, surrounded by good friends, the group is good and the team have the quality to aspire to great achievements,” Gaitan explained to reporters after the Nacional clash.
Nevertheless, the Argentine forward failed to rule out a summer exit from La Luz.
“When people feel good, there is no reason for a change, but nobody can predict the future. Let’s wait for the end of the season and then we’ll see.”
The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Boca Juniors and quickly developed into a key player for los Xeneizes.
After two very successful seasons at La Bombonera, Gaitan joined Benfica in an €8.4 million deal in the summer of 2010.
The Argentine arrived to the club as a replacement for Angel Di Maria and he soon proved up for the task, having become one of the first names on the teamsheet.
He has since attracted attention of major European clubs such as Manchester United and is widely tipped to join one of the European giants in the near future.
