Continuing on their Champions League romp, Bayern Munich made it three Group A victories on the bounce as they landed a 3-1 win away at Galatasaray on Tuesday evening.
Breaking even more European records in Istanbul, the German giants came flying out of the traps here as France international Kingsley Coman opened the scoring after just eight minutes.
While the red-hot Mauro Icardi might have dragged Galatasaray level from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark, Thomas Tuchel’s squad certainly enjoyed a real second-half flurry on foreign soil.
Watching England skipper Harry Kane extend on his remarkable start to life in Munich after notching his 11th goal of the season just 17 minutes before the final whistle, it was eventually 20-year-old Jamal Musiala who wrapped up a dominant victory away from the Allianz.
Mustering nine points from their three Group A appearances this year, Tuchel’s high-flying squad now hold a commanding five-point buffer over the chasing pack.
In what was often a thrilling affair from Istanbul on Tuesday evening, we have taken a look at the main talking points as Bayern Munich laid down another heavyweight Champions League marker.
Bayern are a genuine Champions League contender this year
While Bayern Munich might once again find themselves as a landslide tip to get their hands on yet another Bundesliga crown this season, it is Champions League success that is at the top of Tuchel’s wishlist this time around.
Opening their European adventure with a famous performance at the Allianz on September 20th as they claimed an action-packed 4-3 win against Premier League giants Manchester United, the former Chelsea boss should find the mood in his camp at a real high.
Putting in another rampant display here and really gaining a string of plaudits, Bayern have won all of their three Group A contests this year and should be regarded as a genuine European contender.
Holding a commanding five-point buffer at the top of the Group A table and already with one foot in the knockout stage, Tuchel’s side have also gained a reputation for their continued success on foreign soil.
Including Tuesday’s thrilling 3-1 victory in Istanbul, Bayern have now won six of their last seven showdowns away from the Allianz over the past 18 months.
Who can stop Kane this season?
Stealing most of the summer headlines after completing a blockbuster £100million move to Munich, Kane has certainly hit the ground running since switching the Premier League for a new Bundesliga adventure.
Breaking a host of domestic records and clearly enjoying life under Tuchel, the former Tottenham talisman has clearly offered Bayern a new dimension in the final third.
Once again finding the net in Istanbul and now registering 11 goals across all competitions for the German giants, Kane is also averaging 1.04 goals per appearance so far this season.
In fact, also getting on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich marked their return from October’s international break with a 3-1 victory against Mainz over the weekend, Kane has scored a record-breaking nine Bundesliga goals in just his first eight outings.
Making it clear that he opted to leave Tottenham in search of Champions League glory, Kane could be the man to drag Bayern to a seventh European crown in 2024.
Galatasaray should still fancy their chances on punching a knockout stage ticket
While Galatasaray might have eventually fallen short on Tuesday evening as they missed out on the chance to lay down a heavyweight marker, the Turkish icons shouldn’t feel too disappointed by their Champions League success so far this season.
Recapturing their Super Lig crown last season and really breaking the bank on a string of eye-catching new arrivals over the summer, Okan Buruk’s side still find themselves hanging onto second-place in Group A.
Causing a major upset away at Old Trafford earlier in the month as they claimed a famous 3-2 victory, the midweek hosts must dust themselves down quickly.
Although Manchester United’s dramatic 1-0 victory against Copenhagen on Tuesday night might have not been well received in Istanbul, Galatasaray should still be fancying their chances of following Bayern out of Group A this year.
Looking to claim some immediate revenge against the reigning German champions on November 8th, Buruk’s side will be next seen in European action when they arrive at the Allianz.
