Turkish daily newspaper Fanatik has suggested that Galatasaray are stepping up their efforts to sign Benfica playmaker Adel Taarabt.
The Moroccan footballer has found it hard to prove his worth in Portugal, with weight issues and unprofessional behaviour denying him a chance to challenge for a starting berth at Estadio da Luz.
Having been relegated to the reserves a while back, Taarabt will be allowed to leave in the winter transfer window, although Benfica reportedly want €3 million for his services.
And after Al Ahli expressed their desire to sign the controversial footballer, the latest reports suggest that Galatasaray has emerged as the favourites for his signature.
The club’s sporting director Cenk Ergun has already been in contact with Taarabt’s representatives and if coach Mustapha Denizli gives the all clear, the deal could be wrapped up in the coming days.
In spite of the player’s disappointing performances of late, Galatasaray officials clearly believe Taarabt will be able to rediscover the impressive form that he displayed during spells with QPR and AC Milan.
